Joining Instructions for the elearning authors learning event          12-13/01/11



Have you ever been bored to tears by long-winded elearning, if so review the SlideShare below? Don’t add to the problem!

When does it start?

The learning event starts at 0830hrs, however the venue will be open from 0800hrs to allow you to ‘make yourself at home’! The event will finish no later than 1630hrs on both days.

Will I get fed?

A buffet lunch will be provided, please contact Learning & Development by 05/01/11 if you have any special dietary requirements. Hot and cold refreshments will be available throughout the day.

Where do I need to be?

The event will take place in the ICT Suite in B202 .

What will we be covering during the 2 day event?

The 2 days will focus upon a ‘fictitious’ piece of elearning that will provide you with the opportunity to:

  • Build a structure
  • Add multi-media content
  • Add a scored assessment
  • Publish a piece of elearning

Many of you will be understandably chomping at the bit to get stuck into creating your own content, however it is critical that you go through this ‘staged’ module first as it will allow the facilitator to ensure that everybody is hitting the appropriate milestones appropriately. If there is sufficient time remaining, then you will be able to work on your own pieces of elearning.  Please inform Learning & Development if you have any special requests prior to attending this session, for example reasonable arrangements to accommodate a disability (e.g. Dyslexia) or a medical condition.

Do I need to bring anything?

If you attended the Action Mapping event on the 02/12/10, then you are to bring your Action Map with you. For those of you who would like a reminder as to the Action Mapping process or were unable to attend, then here is a SlideShare presentation on the subject.

The facilitator will be referencing a workbook covering the basics, so you are strongly advised to bring some note taking equipment to enhance the provided notes.

Do I need to do anything in advance of the event?

Prior to the event there are 2 small pieces of preparatory work to carry out. You should view these 3 x blog posts on elearning design. These should take no more than 10 minutes of your time.

And finally…..

If you facilitate any face-to-face learning events then please consider whether those events could benefit from this type of digital Joining Instruction.

Maybe you could prick their interest in your subject by using a video as an intro…?

… perhaps you could poll delegates before they arrive at your event…?

… maybe a podcast could act as some pre-event preparation..?
